The Norton High School Concert
& Symphonic Bands
The concert band program is the center of the Norton Instrumental Music Program. Students have the opportunity to prepare and perform many different styles of wind band music. All ensembles present concerts at Norton High School as well as adjudicated performances through the Ohio Music Education Association [OMEA].
In November, each student auditions into one of the two performing ensembles.
The Symphony band features the most developed musicians in Norton and prepares
works ranging grade 3.5 - 5. The ensemble addresses the higher level nuances of
ensemble playing in their preparations for concerts, adjudicated events, and contests. The Concert
Band features students preparing works grade 2.5 - 4. Students in this group focus on further
developing the fundamentals of instrumental playing and ensemble rehearsal.
The Concert Band also provides an opportunity for students to develop an ability
to play a second instrument in the program.
The Norton Symphony and Concert Bands hold onto a rich tradition of earning high ratings at all
adjudicated events and contests entered. On average, the bands earn
nothing less than an excellent rating and at times
succeeding to superior ratings.
